About me & this website
Hello, I’m Sean, I’m behind MentalHealthness.com.
This website is more than just a collection of resources; it’s a community where stories and lessons about mental health are shared with honesty and hope.
While my journey began with a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), this site is dedicated to exploring all facets of mental wellness.
It’s about finding what works for you, be it DBT, mindfulness, or other paths to wellness.
My goal is to make the journey toward mental health less daunting and more accessible for everyone.
A Community of Support and Learning
MentalHealthness.com is not just my story; it’s a tapestry of many voices. I’m grateful for each visitor and contributor who has joined this endeavor to make mental health understanding and practices more accessible. We are all teachers and learners here, exploring new ways to practice, stay up to date with our skills, and support each other in our individual journeys.
It’s my honour to serve and be part of this community. Whether you’re here to find comfort, learn a new skill, or share your own experiences, know that MentalHealthness.com is a space where every story matters, and every step forward is celebrated.
Support Where You Can
The site is entirely self funded. I want to share as much access to mental health resources as I can, but hosting and maintaining a website along with generating content comes at a cost (I have a mortgage to pay and it’s nice to eat food each day!) Throughout the site there are ways you can support – be that by donating, clicking through to a brand I’m affiliated with, or even just providing your email address in exchange for some content.
More About Me
Mental health advocacy is just one aspect of my life. Professionally, I’m a freelance marketer / SEO. My work focuses on helping websites be found online.
Previously, I worked as an electronic engineer, then moved into software – working for Hubspot, New Relic, LinkedIn, and most recently, Quantum Metric.
I was made redundant in June 2023 and that spurred me on to start working for myself but to also take up this project. Maybe this will go nowhere, but I want to try. The more I talk to people about mental health and how to look after it, the more I know I want to help.
Personal Life
I’m married to a wonderful wife who is my rock and closest companion. We live in Co. Donegal in Ireland, a most beautiful part of the world.
Outside of work and this website, my life is filled with varied interests and hobbies- brewing beer at home, playing guitar, or making electronic music. I find that these can give me an element of peace from day to day as I can focus solely on them which allows me to block out disquieting thoughts and problems.
My main goal is to be happier, who doesn’t want that? Mental wellbeing, in my opinion, is a primary component of that. Not the stuff you have, not what car you drive, or how much money you earn – that’s just stuff. Stuff doesn’t make you happy!
Sharing Stories and Lessons
The core of MentalHealthness.com lies in our shared stories. These narratives are about the entire experience of grappling with mental health challenges. We’ve all felt alone at times in applying skills learned in therapy or maintaining mental wellness in daily life. This website serves as a reminder that you’re not alone in this journey. I aim to share as much as I can with you, be it lessons, exercises, media, resources, guides.
Learning and integrating mental health practices requires patience and perseverance. The good news is that success comes with practice, with each attempt bringing you closer to better mental health. However, it takes time and patience, virtues that can be challenging to uphold. I’m here to support and guide you through that process.
